The department was presented the award at the association’s annual
meeting, held June 8, 2006 in Southern Pines, North Carolina. There were nearly
100 award entries from 20 tourism departments/visitors bureaus across North
Carolina. The judges were tourism professionals from all over the country,
including advertising agency representatives and marketing specialists.
This is the department’s first visitor’s guide. One hundred thousand
copies were printed; as of July 2006 over half of the guides have already been
distributed to potential visitors. The guide includes tourism-related businesses
from all of Currituck County: beach, mainland, and Knotts Island. It took
several months to compile the information and prepare it for
printing.
Tourism staff members who developed the guide were:
• Diane Sawyer, Director
• Veronica Brown, Marketing Coordinator (Project Manager)
• John Nixon, Information & Communications Officer
• Deb Embrey, Website Administrator
• Diana Pittman, Visitor Relations Associate
