Corolla Chapel
The chapel was built in 1885 and served the Community until 1958. It was not used again until 1987 when a new congregation was established. In 2002 a large addition was built to accommodate the growing attendance. The interior of the new addition was built to resemble the style of the original section, even replica pews were installed. Many visitors come to see the pelican altar window and hear its story. In recent years it has also become a popular wedding site. Corolla Chapel is the only year round Church in Corolla (Interdenominational) with a service every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. with the addition of an 8:30 a.m. service during the season. Corolla Wild Horse Museum in the Corolla School House
Built in the early 1900's, this historic landmark was the first unified Corolla school created by the Currituck County School system and was open through the late 1950's. The schoolhouse has since been restored by Twiddy & Company Realtors and currently houses: the Corolla Wild Horse Fund offices, a free interactive wild horse museum, a Spanish Mustang retail shop, and original art by national equinc artist Robin Caspari. Located in the heart of Old Corolla Village the Corolla School House and Corolla Wild Horse Museum offer fun educational activities for children in the summer. Call for program information. There is no admission fee for the museum and nominal fees for children's programs. Currituck Beach Lighthouse
Climb the 214 steps to the top of the majestic, red brick lighthouse. First lit on December 1, 1875, the beacon filled the remaining "dark spot" on the North Carolina coast between Cape Henry and Bodie Island lighthouses. It is one of the only lighthouses in America that still houses its' original first-order Fresnel lens. The light continues to flash today at 20-second intervals, serving as a navigational aid. The beacon, which can be seen for 18 nautical miles, comes on at dusk and ceases at dawn. The Currituck Beach Lighthouse is a member of Currituck Heritage Park, Historic Corolla and the Historic Albemarle Tour. The admission cost to climb the lighthouse is $7.00 for anyone 8 years of age or older, youth 7 and under are admitted free of charge with an adult (cash and checks only). Children 12 and younger may climb only if accompanied by an adult. Parents or guardians must sign a waiver for unaccompanied climbers ages 13-18. During periods of high winds or extreme weather the outside gallery or the entire lighthouse tower may be closed to climbers. Historic Jarvisburg Colored School
Currently the school is being nominated to the National Register for education, social history, black ethnic heritage and architecture The building is also an extremely rare example of a pre-Rosenwald African American school constructed in North Carolina. The outside of the building has been recently restored with the ultimate goal of a full interior restoration with hopes of one day turning the building into a museum. The Whalehead Club at Currituck Heritage Park
Built in the mid-1920's, the Whalehead Club continues to stand as one of the most spectacular landmarks on the Currituck Outer Banks. Owners, Edward Collings and Marie Louise Knight traveled to Corolla from points north and used Corolla Island as their winter residence from 1925-34. Boasting art nouveau architectural styling and accented with Tiffany lamps, cork-tiled floors, brass duck head and water lily hardware, this magnificent structure stood isolated for years on these remote barrier islands and has been fully restored.
