4th of July Weekend in Currittuck

Take the time this July 4th weekend to catch two exciting activities that Currituck County has to offer.

Spend Friday, July 4, 2008 on the Currituck Outer Banks, checking out Currituck Heritage Park, in Corolla, beginning at 6:00 p.m. and continuing until 11:00 p.m. A wide range of activities and attractions will be available throughout this event, which will culminate in a free fireworks show staged by Dominion Fireworks.

Visitors will be able to enjoy live musical entertainment by the Boomerangs, children’s activities, and various vendors located near the Whalehead Club. All attractions in Currituck Heritage Park -, the Whalehead Club, Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education and the Currituck Lighthouse, as well as nearby Historic Corolla Village - will be open to the public for visitors. In the evening, lawn seating will be available for the fireworks show.

Please follow parking directions upon arrival. For more information, contact the Currituck Department of Travel and Tourism at 435-2947, or the Corolla Visitors Center at 453-9612.

Then on Saturday, July 5th get down and dirty on the Currituck Mainland!

Motorsports enthusiasts can witness exciting off-road racing at the Currituck Outer Banks’ first Mud Bog and Power Wheel Races set for Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the new Dennis Anderson’s Muddy Motor Sports Park in Aydlett, N.C. (Hwy. 158).

Hear the engines roar and watch mud fly as drivers push their vehicles to the limit while racing through a mud pit to the finish. Race categories include Street Class (street legal trucks and stock), Super Stock Class, Modified Class, Super Modified Class, and Unlimited Mudders.

An exceptionally fun part of the event is Power Wheel Races, where youngsters race their Power Wheels for cool prizes. The family-fun festivities start at 1:00 p.m. and continue until the racin’ is done.
